The Gold Seal of Approval\u00ae and the Heart-Check mark represent symbols of quality from their respective organizations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/departments-programs\/neurological-institute\">Cooper Neurological Institute <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/departments-programs\/stroke-program\">Stroke Program <\/a>aims to provide the highest standard of care, including diagnosis, prevention and treatment, for patients with stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases. The program underwent a rigorous onsite review in June 2015. The Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCooper has thoroughly demonstrated the greatest level of commitment to the care of stroke patients through its Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers,\u201d said Michele Sacco, MS, interim executive director of Certification Programs. \u201cWe commend Cooper for becoming a leader in stroke care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for stroke patients in its community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe congratulate Cooper for achieving this designation,\u201d said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association. \u201cBy adhering to this very specific set of treatment guidelines Cooper has clearly made it a priority to deliver high-quality care to all patients affected by stroke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCooper is pleased to receive advanced certification from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/physicians\/ryna-then-md\">Ryna K. Then, MD<\/a>, director of the Inpatient Stroke Program. \u201cThe certification provides us with the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide as well as to continually strive to advance our care even further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Established in 2003, Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers is awarded for a two-year period to The Joint Commission-accredited acute-care hospitals. The certification was derived from the Brain Attack Coalition\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/10865305?dopt=Abstract\">\u201cRecommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers\u201d<\/a> (JAMA, 2000) and the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/stroke.ahajournals.org\/content\/42\/9\/2651.full\">Revised and Updated Recommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers<\/a>\u201d (Stroke, 2011).<\/p>\n<p>Stroke is number five in the cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States, according to the American Heart Association\/American Stroke Association.
