(Camden, New Jersey) Veterans living in southern NJ, who have historically been under served due to limited access to health care services, will now have better health care access at the new Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Annex (CBOA) located on Broadway in Camden, NJ.<\/p>\n
The CBOA will open its doors in 2009 to provide services for military veterans while adding significantly to the revitalization of the central business district in the vicinity of Broadway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facility will provide hard-earned convenience to military veterans who live in Camden County and surrounding communities in South Jersey,\u2019 said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. \u201cCooper is a perfect fit to transform the idea of improving services for veterans into reality. County Clerk Jim Beach took the lead in behalf of county government and, as usual, worked relentlessly as an advocate for veterans benefits in Camden County.\u201d<\/p>\n
Primary health care services provided at this facility include annual physical exams, preventative health services, immunizations, routine lab work and the drawing of special lab specimens for testing at the VA, EKG\u2019s, patient education, nursing care, and mental health diagnostic and treatment services.<\/p>\n
This facility will provide local veterans with immediate improvement in primary care and with continuity of care at a convenient location. Because of the availability of better outpatient health care, hospital length of stays should decrease and patients will receive consistent post-discharge follow-up care closer to their homes. Currently, the closest VA community-based outpatient annexes are located in Cape May, Fort Dix and Gloucester. This facility is located close to Camden\u2019s Walter Rand Transportation Center near PATCO’s High Speedline Broadway Station which makes it conveniently accessible for area veterans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe annex will occupy 5,267 square feet of space on the ground floor of the nine-story parking center built and managed by the county to accommodate the growth of a health sciences campus anchored by Cooper University Hospital,\u201d explained George E. Norcross, Chairman of Cooper\u2019s Board of Trustees. \u201cThis facility will fill a void for veterans all over South Jersey and Cooper is proud to be part of the health care solution for these deserving American patriots.\u201d<\/p>\n
In conjunction with the addition of VA services on the Health Sciences Campus, Cooper is establishing a program specifically for veterans. They will be provided a hotline and a special pass.
