{"id":7765,"date":"2017-05-23T13:54:02","date_gmt":"2017-05-23T17:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/?p=7765"},"modified":"2018-03-19T14:46:31","modified_gmt":"2018-03-19T18:46:31","slug":"trauma-awareness-month-become-a-hero-save-a-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/2017\/05\/trauma-awareness-month-become-a-hero-save-a-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Trauma Awareness Month: Become a Hero, Save a Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Cooper Offers Free \u201cStop the Bleed\u201d Training to Organizations and Groups<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/content.jwplatform.com\/players\/PaFu3qCc-PfkgzvIG.html\" width=\"480\" height=\"290\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\" 0=\"allowfullscreen\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Would you know how to \u201cStop the Bleed\u201d if your loved one had a deep laceration causing severe bleeding?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/departments-programs\/ems-outreach-and-medical-direction\">Cooper University Health Care\u2019s EMS Outreach<\/a> coordinators, in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/departments-programs\/level-1-trauma-center\">Cooper Trauma Department<\/a>, will offer free Stop the Bleed training to community organizations, businesses, or agencies as part of a national initiative aimed at putting knowledge gained by first responders and the military into the hands of the public to help save lives during times of disaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeath from the bleeding of a major artery can occur within minutes, even before first responders can respond,\u201d said Brian Collins, EMS Outreach coordinator at Cooper University Health Care. \u201cMay is Trauma Awareness Month and the theme is to help others by taking action to control life-threatening hemorrhage. We are reaching out to groups to get as many people trained as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) program is a two-hour course that teaches non-clinical laypersons how to apply tourniquets, pack a wound, and open a victim\u2019s airway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBleeding to death is preventable,\u201d said Collins. \u201cWith B-Con training, countless lives will have a fighting chance at survival.
