Norcross, III and family will donate private transportation costs<\/h2>\n<p>Cooper University Health Care is working with federal government agencies and has offered to send a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals as well as needed supplies to help the people of Puerto Rico, who have been devastated by Hurricane Maria. George E. Norcross, III Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cooper, and his family have offered to underwrite the estimated $100,000 cost of transportation to Puerto Rico for the Cooper medical support team and supplies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people of Puerto Rico are enduring terrible suffering and in need of support and medical assistance as a result of Hurricane Maria,\u201d said Lexie Norcross, a Trustee and president of the Norcross Foundation and a member of the Cooper Foundation Board of Trustees. \u201cNearly thirty percent of population of the City of Camden, Cooper\u2019s home city, is from Puerto Rico, and we want to help them, and their family members still on the island, who are suffering and in need of medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reports out of Puerto Rico, where many hospitals are still without power, indicate that the island is in a medical crisis and in need of assistance. Cooper\u2019s emergency medicine and trauma teams are working through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to coordinate its effort to send medical personnel and supplies to areas of need.<\/p>\n<p>The Cooper Foundation is also running a campaign to raise funds to assist the people of Puerto Rico. Anyone who is interested in donating can do so by going to the Foundation\u2019s website at <a href=\"https:\/\/foundation.cooperhealth.org\/puertoricofund\">https:\/\/foundation.cooperhealth.org\/puertoricofund<\/a> and donate to the Puerto Rico Fund.
