Cooper University Health Care\u2019s Helping Our Heroes program<\/a> invites all area first responders (police, fire, emergency medical services personnel) to a free cancer and cardiovascular disease awareness and prevention program on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Winslow Township Fire Department<\/a>, 9 Cedar Brook Road, Sicklerville, NJ.<\/p>\n

Presented by a panel of physicians from MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper<\/a> and the Cooper Heart Institute<\/a>, the program will cover topics including the importance of routine lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer screenings; reducing cardiac risks among first responders; and protecting lungs from occupational hazards.<\/p>\n

Helping Our Heroes is a community health initiative for all first responders including fire, EMS, law enforcement, and public safety administration created between the Camden County Freeholders and Cooper University Health Care in November 2013.<\/p>\n

Studies have shown that first responders often are at higher risk of serious and life-threatening health conditions related to occupational hazards. This program addresses those issues and provides routine screenings, preventative cardiovascular health risk assessments, annual wellness exams, and health and wellness educational programs for first responders in the community based stations and firehouses where they work.<\/p>\n
