{"id":8603,"date":"2017-12-20T12:08:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T17:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/?p=8603"},"modified":"2017-12-20T12:08:26","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T17:08:26","slug":"rowan-university-commits-50-million-for-medical-research-at-cooper-medical-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/2017\/12\/rowan-university-commits-50-million-for-medical-research-at-cooper-medical-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Rowan University commits $50 million for medical research at Cooper Medical School"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Cooper University Health Care Board commits to developing top research program to benefit patients and Camden economy<\/h2>\n<p>Last week, Rowan University\u2019s Board of Trustees committed $50 million over ten years to significantly enhance medical and bioscience research at the <a href=\"http:\/\/cmsru.rowan.edu\/\">Cooper Medical School of Rowan University<\/a> (CMSRU) in the City of Camden.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/about-us\/board-trustees\">Cooper University Health Care\u2019s Board<\/a> voted today committing to a collaborative effort to build a first-rate medical research program focused on recruiting top research and clinical faculty to develop breakthrough medical cures and treatments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedical research programs, as we envision at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, have great potential to impact education, our health care system, and the economy,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.rowan.edu\/president\/biography.html\">Dr. Ali A. Houshmand<\/a>, president of Rowan University. \u201cWe believe this investment and the collaboration with Cooper University Health Care physicians will build upon CMSRU\u2019s strong reputation and strengthen Camden\u2019s \u2018eds and meds\u2019 corridor as an important destination for medical and bioscience research, and is in keeping with our recent designation as a Carnegie research institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Houshmand, Rowan\u2019s investment will add further momentum to the City of Camden\u2019s revitalization efforts and create a new economic opportunities in the \u201ceds and meds\u201d corridor. The funding will be used, in part, to develop programs, attract top researchers, and provide seed money and start-up costs for researchers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the leading academic health system in South Jersey, Cooper knows how significant medical and bioscience research programs are to developing the next generation of breakthrough treatments and cures,\u201d said Cooper University Health Care Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/about-us\/board-trustees\">George E. Norcross, III<\/a>. \u201cCooper\u2019s Board is in full support of Rowan\u2019s investment and committed to creating a first-rate research program at CMSRU.
