Cooper participates in the American Heart Association\u2019s Little Hats, Big Hearts™ program to empower new moms to live heart-healthy while raising awareness of congenital heart defects.<\/h2>\n

Cooper University Health Care is excited to join the American Heart Association\u2019s Little Hats, Big Hearts<\/a> program this year. The American Heart Association is raising awareness about family heart health and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country, with support from The Children\u2019s Heart Foundation<\/a>™. This effort aims to empower new moms to take charge of their own well-being while creating a healthy lifestyle for the entire family.<\/p>\n

Deborah Schoy, RN, Clinical Director, Mother Infant Unit; Robin L. Perry, MD, FACOG, Chairman and Chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Robyn Harvey, Vice President, Women and Children\u2019s Hospital Operations, show-off the items each new mom will receive.<\/p><\/div>\n

As part of the Little Hats, Big Hearts program, babies born at Cooper during February all received a beautiful handmade, knitted or crocheted red hat, as well as a kit full of heart-healthy information for mom and baby. Each mom received a health packet which included tips on raising a healthy family, ways mom can take care of herself, heart-healthy recipes, and information on children\u2019s heart health.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a regional perinatal center, Cooper serves a large population of women annually, and education is a key component of our program,\u201d said Robin L. Perry, MD, FACOG<\/a>, Chairman and Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology<\/a>. \u201cWe are delighted to participate in the Little Hats, Big Hearts promotion which highlights the importance of heart health in both new mothers and their babies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Little Hats, Big Hearts program started in Chicago in 2014 and has expanded to more than 40 states. Since 2016, over 10,000 hats have been distributed in the Garden State.
