The Cooper University Hospital Board of Trustees recently approved a new $100 million Cooper Cancer Institute (CCI) project which includes the creation of a new dedicated cancer services building on the Camden campus and expansion of cancer services at Cooper – Voorhees.
The 4-story, 103,000 square foot building will be located on the corner of MLK Boulevard and Haddon Avenue adjacent to Three Cooper Plaza.
The new building is designed to provide patients with one facility that houses all outpatient cancer care services. In this dynamic environment, medical, surgical and gynecological oncologists, radiation oncologists and urologists can conduct concurrent, complementary clinical sessions fostering professional interaction and collaboration. The new facility will have the advantage of being on the main, hospital campus as well as being affiliated with the new Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
The new facility will include:
• 1st Floor – Lobby and reception, radiology and radiation oncology, including two linear accelerators, high dose radiation, PET/CT and space for future MRI expansion.
• 2nd Floor – Multidisciplinary care center (hematology/ medical oncology, surgical oncology, urology, gynecologic oncology), patient financial services, academic space.
• 3rd Floor – Infusion suite with 18 chemo infusion chairs and 2 private infusion bays, pharmacy, lab, administrative offices, research.
• 4th Floor – Shell space for future cancer program growth.
In addition to the new building, the project also includes service enhancements and equipment upgrades at the Cooper – Voorhees facility including the addition of a second linear accelerator and the installation of a permanent PET/CT.
Groundbreaking for the new Cooper Cancer Institute is setfor April 2012 and the building is expected to open in the fall of 2013. The Cooper – Voorhees equipment projects will be carried out across 2012.
