A recent agreement between Cooper\u00a0University Health Care and Inspira Health\u00a0Network, called Cardiac Partners at\u00a0Cooper and Inspira, provides patients with\u00a0access to coordinated and comprehensive\u00a0cardiac services across the continuum of care.<\/p>\n

The integration of the two health\u00a0systems\u2019 cardiac service lines creates\u00a0what is now the largest program in South\u00a0Jersey, expanding access and convenience\u00a0for referring physicians and their patients\u00a0throughout the region. Cardiac Partners\u00a0includes more than 65 cardiac specialists\u00a0and offers a comprehensive range of\u00a0services [see below for listing].<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is tremendous synergy in what\u00a0each of us does,\u201d says Phillip A. Koren,\u00a0MD, FACC, FSCAI, Medical Director of\u00a0the Cooper Heart Institute. \u201cHere at\u00a0Cooper, one of our strengths is tertiary\u00a0and advanced-level care for patients with\u00a0heart and vascular disease. Inspira is a\u00a0three-hospital health system and provides\u00a0state-of-the-art cardiovascular care at the community hospital level.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in partnership, we\u00a0complement each other\u2019s offerings and\u00a0offer seamless cardiac care through a single\u00a0point of access to residents throughout\u00a0South Jersey,\u201d he continues. \u201cAnd patients can receive the care they need in the most\u00a0appropriate, convenient setting.\u201d<\/p>\n

For example, Dr. Koren notes,\u00a0Inspira has a cardiac rehabilitation program\u2014\u00a0something that Cooper has not developed\u2014\u00a0while Cooper offers advanced cardiac\u00a0surgery capabilities, including transcatheter\u00a0aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral\u00a0valve repair and replacement, and placement\u00a0of the Watchman left atrial appendage\u00a0closure (LAAC) device. In addition, as an\u00a0academic medical center, Cooper is involved\u00a0in clinical trials investigating leading-edge cardiac surgery techniques and new devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cEqually important, Cooper and Inspira\u00a0physicians will have access to both health\u00a0care systems, making referrals easier than\u00a0ever,\u201d he adds. \u201cAnd patients can stay here\u00a0in New Jersey, close to home, for the most\u00a0advanced, high-quality cardiac care.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the health care landscape continues\u00a0to shift, this innovative\u00a0business model not only\u00a0increases patient access, but\u00a0also enables the two health\u00a0care systems to expand\u00a0service offerings, operate\u00a0more efficiently, reduce\u00a0duplication of services, and continue to improve quality.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we\u2019re\u00a0developing additional\u00a0services, including a program for the management of\u00a0advanced heart failure,\u201d Dr.\u00a0Koren says. \u201cBy sharing\u00a0resources and expertise,\u00a0we\u2019ll be able to care for\u00a0patients at Inspira\u2019s community\u00a0hospitals as well as at Cooper.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also focusing on quality\u00a0improvement in both systems,\u201d he continues.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re adopting best practices to help reduce\u00a0clinical variation as well as readmissions and\u00a0boost the overall health of our shared patient population.\u201d<\/p>\n

Care coordination is another important benefit offered by Cardiac Partners.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of our overarching objectives is to\u00a0make the care process seamless for patients\u00a0who need cardiac care,\u201d Dr. Koren stresses,\u00a0acknowledging that the health care system\u00a0can sometimes feel overwhelming and\u00a0fragmented. \u201cWhatever services a patient\u00a0needs\u2014from basic screening and diagnostic\u00a0testing in the outpatient setting, to the full\u00a0range of treatments, including advanced\u00a0cardiac surgery and rehabilitation\u2014we aim to make it as simple and efficient as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
