{"id":214,"date":"2010-05-24T11:42:09","date_gmt":"2010-05-24T15:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/stories\/?p=214"},"modified":"2010-05-24T11:42:29","modified_gmt":"2010-05-24T15:42:29","slug":"consequences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/stories\/2010\/05\/consequences\/","title":{"rendered":"Consequences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In response to a recent <em>Courier-Post <\/em>article about the Level 1 Trauma Center&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/2010\/05\/traumatic-injury-prevention-program-featured-in-courier-post\/\">Traumatic Injury Prevention Program<\/a>, Dolores Andrew of Turnersville wrote in to discuss the importance of the program and the impact it could have had on her 21-year-old-son, who passed away in March.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I am offering my heartfelt praise for Cooper University Hospital&#8217;s trauma demonstration to area high school students. Many high school- and college-age teenagers and young adults feel they are immortal and engage in risky behaviors without realizing the consequences.<\/p>\n<p>I am aware of this firsthand because on March 19 my 21-year-old son was one of those young adults. Allegedly, he climbed onto a car in motion in a parking lot being driven by a friend. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.<\/p>\n<p>He was taken by helicopter to Cooper Trauma. The staff at Cooper worked heroically to save him.
