Breastfeeding is the best form of nutrition for babies and is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
To get the word out about the benefits of breastfeeding and to create a breastfeeding-supportive culture, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action sponsors World Breastfeeding Week. This year, the theme is about how breastfeeding is a key element in getting us to think about how to value our wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other, and how to care for the world we share.
The Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at Cooper supports breastfeeding by educating our pregnant patients about breastfeeding at every prenatal visit. Benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, latch and positioning, skin-to-skin contact, and rooming-in are among topics covered.
