We are pleased to have collaborated successfully with other prominent local health systems in a bid in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to maintain the federal funding for the Hahnemann University Hospital training programs. This important step will allow\u00a0the health systems, including Cooper, to continue the training of more than 500 medical residents and fellows each year.<\/p>\n

Coalition of Regional Academic Health Organizations Wins Bid for Hahnemann Residency Program <\/strong><\/p>\n Christiana Care, Cooper, Einstein, Jefferson, Main Line, and Temple join together to preserve physician education and patient care <\/em><\/p>\n PHILADELPHIA (August 9, 2019)\u2014Six mission-driven, nonprofit academic health organizations across Greater Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley won a collective bid for the physician residency program at Hahnemann University Hospital.<\/p>\n The move ensures access to patient care services\u2014especially for the underserved\u2014and stabilizes the education of hundreds of residents who will be the region\u2019s health care providers of the future.<\/p>\n The bid also unites the majority of institutions\u2014Christiana Care Health System, Cooper University Health Care, Einstein Healthcare Network, Jefferson Health, Main Line Health, and Temple Health\u2014that are absorbing the patients, residents, and employees displaced by the Hahnemann closure with a shared vision of doing what\u2019s right for the community.<\/p>\n The U.S. Bankruptcy Court will review the bid during a hearing scheduled for August 19. Closing of the transaction is dependent upon certain regulatory approvals. Should the court approve, the transaction will provide vital medical malpractice insurance for displaced residents, which will protect them from personal liability.<\/p>\n The coalition has been working tirelessly since last month to assist in what\u2019s been called a medical crisis for the Philadelphia region by:<\/p>\n Furthermore, the coalition is open to discussions with a partner to discuss ways of providing care at Hahnemann or St. Christopher\u2019s Hospital for Children, which are owned by parent company Philadelphia Academic Health System.
