Cooper University Health Care is proud to announce that Nitin K. Puri, MD, Division Head, Critical Care Medicine and Co-Medical Director, Center for Critical Care Medicine, was named a co-winner of Physician Health Care Hero of the Year by NJBIZ magazine as part of the publication\u2019s annual Health Care Heroes awards.<\/p>\n

According to the editors of NJBIZ, \u201cThis year has presented unique challenges to us all, but in the midst of a public health pandemic it\u2019s hard not to focus on those working on the \u2018front lines\u2019 of that fight, bringing an added sense of gravitas and appreciation to the 2020 NJBIZ Health Care Heroes Awards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to the unprecedented circumstances faced this year by workers in the health care industry, during its October 15, 2020, virtual celebration NJBIZ announced all of this year\u2019s finalists as winners for the 2020 Health Care Heroes Awards. <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Stephen W. Trzeciak, MD, MPH, Chairman and Chief of the Department of Medicine at Cooper, \u201cDr. Puri leads from the front. He builds strong relationships with everyone on his team and always puts his team first. Building up his team and giving them credit is paramount to his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

COVID-19 has been the biggest challenge health care systems have experienced in a century. Many exceptional health care professionals stepped up to meet this unprecedented challenge. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Puri led the team at Cooper with steadfast leadership, care, and compassion.<\/p>\n

As a leading academic health system, Cooper is the only hospital in South Jersey to offer a multidisciplinary team approach to critical care, including dedicated, on-site critical care physicians round-the-clock. Due to the advanced expertise of Dr. Puri and his team, Cooper is a major transfer center in the state with more than 7,000 annual patient transfers from area hospitals.<\/p>\n
