The New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing at Rutgers School of Nursing hosted a virtual event on November 17, 2020, showcasing participants of the New Jersey Nurse Residency Collaborative program, which launched last March. The program showcases nursing leaders, clinical coordinators, nurse residents, preceptors and mentors, and partners from across 15 participating acute care hospitals in New Jersey and what they\u2019ve learned since the onset of the grant-funded nurse residency program. Cooper is one of the participating hospitals.<\/p>\n
The program exists to provide tools and support for hospitals implementing a standardized 12- to 15-month nurse residency program for newly registered nurse graduates who are transitioning into their first job. Funded through the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development\u2019s (NJDOL) Growing Apprenticeship in Nontraditional Sectors\u00a0(GAINS)\u00a0competitive grant, this program has been shown to enhance new nurse retention and patient safety. New nurse graduates participating in the program receive more than 144 hours of application education and 2,000 hours of preceptor and mentored support.<\/p>\n
