Every week this month, we will introduce a Pinpoint promoting sepsis awareness. Sepsis is the body\u2019s overwhelming response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, amputation, and death.<\/p>\n

Who gets sepsis?<\/strong><\/p>\n

While sepsis is more likely to affect young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and\/or weakened immune systems, sepsis is an equal opportunity killer, affecting people of all ages and levels of health.<\/p>\n

What are the symptoms?<\/strong><\/p>\n

When it comes to sepsis, remember it\u2019s about TIME.\u00a0\u00a0 Watch for:<\/p>\n

If you have a combination of these symptoms, especially if you recently had a cut, surgery, invasive procedure, or infection, call 911 or go to a hospital and say, \u201cI am concerned about sepsis.\u201d The sooner you are treated for sepsis, the better your outcome.<\/p>\n

Can you prevent sepsis?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sepsis can\u2019t always be prevented, but the risk drops when you try to prevent or treat infections as quickly as possible. You can do this by:<\/p>\n

  1. Staying current with vaccinations.<\/li>\n
  2. Practicing good hygiene.<\/li>\n
  3. Seeking medical attention ASAP if you think you have an infection.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
