Influenza activity is increasing in South Jersey and in the U.S.\u00a0This is supported by CDC and NJDOH surveillance, data mined by Cooper\u2019s infection preventionists, and our own experience seeing more patients with influenza-like symptoms. Therefore, as of Thursday, November 17, 2022, flu season at Cooper has officially begun.<\/p>\n

Although the deadline for receiving a flu vaccine or filing an exemption is December 7, 2022, we strongly encourage Cooper team members to receive a flu vaccine as soon as possible. We expect this flu season will be unusually severe because of the confluence of influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).\u00a0 While there is no vaccine for RSV, vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 can help reduce the severity of disease and the risk of hospitalization for both of these conditions. In addition to vaccination, proper hand hygiene and good cough etiquette are essential and remain the most effective ways to prevent the transmission of influenza and other infections.<\/p>\n
