October 2022 Daisy Award Winner: Andrew Bergman BS, RN, MSW, CCRN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Andrew Bergman BS, RN, MSW, CCRN, a\u00a0daytime staff nurse from the\u00a0ICU unit, iwasthe Daisy Award winner for October\u00a02022. Andy’s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care he provided to our Cooper patients earned him\u00a0the following accolade:<\/p>\n

“My father was transferred to the ICU for the second time on the evening of August 1, 2022, due to his anemias and blood pressure dropping extremely low. The next morning, August 2, 2022, my dad had his worst day and was fighting for his life. Andy was his nurse. Andy was the most helpful nurse we met. My dad had to get a unit of blood and was extremely weak. Andy encouraged my dad the entire time with positive words and was right by his side, so he didn\u2019t feel alone or afraid. My family and I were in the room at different times trying to help my dad too, but it took the professional care of a dedicated nurse to get him through his hardest day. I will never forget what the doctors and nurses provided to save my father\u2019s life. I am especially grateful for Andy for caring for my dad firsthand and for being by his side all day. He was truly a gift to us in providing comfort and reassurance. I hope Andy is recognized for his dedication to my father and all of the other patients he cared for during his thirty years as a nurse.”<\/p>\n

November 2022 Daisy Award Winner: Kay Joseph,\u00a0RN, BA<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kay Joseph,\u00a0RN, BA, a daytime staff nurse from the K7\u00a0unit, was the Daisy Award winner for November\u00a02022. Kay\u2019s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provided to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolade:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter has a TBI [traumatic brain injury] and remains unconscious as a result of a car accident last July. First, I would like to commend the entire nursing staff on the Pavilion 7th floor for the extraordinary care they have provided for my daughter. She\u2019s been at Cooper for over twenty weeks now, and for her not to have a bed sore is a testimony to the kind of special care the staff has provided. Nurse Kay was my daughter\u2019s first nurse in the Pavilion room 731. From the beginning, Kay demonstrated exceptional care towards my daughter and treated her like her own. As she laid there unconscious and motionless, Kay made sure she\u2019s clean, turned her every couple of hours religiously, medicated and fed her on schedule, cleaned her trach, talked to her, and gave her encouraging words, among other things. She also offered words of comfort and reassurance to me and my husband. If she was the nurse assigned to Janelle, I knew she would be cared for very well. Even when Kay is not the assigned nurse, she would stop by on her free time just to say hi to us and make sure my daughter was doing well.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause Kay has gone above and beyond our expectations for our nurse, we nominate her for the DAISY Award! We thank Kay from the bottom of our hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n

December 2022 Daisy Award Winner: Alyssa Kostiu,\u00a0BSN, RN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alyssa Kostiu,\u00a0BSN, RN, an overnight\u00a0staff nurse from the Labor and Delivery\u00a0unit, was the Daisy Award winner for December\u00a02022. Alyssa\u2019s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provided to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolade:<\/p>\n

“Alyssa was initially my intake nurse when I was induced to have my baby in July. Being this was my first pregnancy, I was anxious to be induced. She instantly alleviated my fears with her professional and warm personality. She was also extremely knowledgeable. I was so relieved when she was our nurse again for when I actually delivered our son. Alyssa showed autonomy and advocated for me. I truly believe she is what made my birthing experience so positive. I felt empowered and she made my delivery experience so special. She is an incredible nurse and gave me an amazing patient experience. The entire time I pushed, it was just her in the room, coaching me through every step, and somehow managing to make myself, my husband, and mother-in-law laugh the entire time. After I delivered, she checked up on us in mother-baby to see how we were doing. I can\u2019t write enough good about Alyssa. I am so thankful to have had her as the nurse who delivered my baby.”<\/p>\n
