MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper will host a free lecture on colorectal cancer on Thursday, March 19, 2015<\/strong>, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A pizza lunch will be provided. All employees are welcome but we ask that you register in advance to ensure there is adequate seating and lunch for all participants \u2013 space is limited.<\/p>\n

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer \u2013 if found early, it is highly treatable. There are currently more than one million colorectal cancer survivors in the U.S.<\/p>\n

In both men and women, colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer. People with a first-degree relative (parent, sibling or offspring) who has colorectal cancer have an increased risk of developing the disease. Although 90 percent of colorectal cancer cases occur in people 50 and older, incidence rates in adults younger than 50 have been increasing.<\/p>\n

Screening is the most effective way to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer at any age. In many cases, screening can prevent colorectal cancer completely by finding and removing polyps before they become cancer. If cancer is present, earlier detection means a higher survival rate.<\/p>\n
