<\/p>\nCaroline Huelster, RN,\u00a0a Trauma-Med Surg\u00a0nurse, is the Daisy Award winner for April 2023. Caroline\u2019s dedication to Cooper Nursing and the extraordinary care she provided to our Cooper patients earned her the following accolade:<\/p>\n
“I would like to nominate this nurse for the DAISY award in recognition of her exceptional professionalism, dedication, and the unparalleled compassion she provided me and my family during my extended stay in the hospital. Unfortunately, on Easter Sunday, I took a severe tumble that resulted in several severe injuries. Once I was out of the Trauma ICU, I was required to stay on her floor for a total of seven days.\u00a0 Her exceptional care and unwavering dedication to my well-being were evident during this time. She consistently monitored my condition and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort, providing support and advocating for me whenever needed. Her attentiveness was especially evident when I was experiencing extreme discomfort with my chest tube. She closely monitored my condition, noticing that the chest tube was not behaving as one would expect and ensuring that the night nurse was aware of my pain and symptoms. Despite the chest tube not resolving itself, she and the night nurse tirelessly advocated for me, raising the issue to several APNs until it was finally agreed to remove the chest tube, which had become twisted and kinked. Additionally, she successfully resolved several issues that arose with my IVs and other challenges, demonstrating her exceptional healthcare professional skills. Her exceptional technical skills are surpassed only by her genuine kindness and empathetic nature. Throughout my stay, she was acutely aware of the emotional toll my hospitalization was taking on my family members, including my husband, sister, 80-year-old mother, and 16-year-old daughter who were all in various stages of distress as they sat with me throughout the day. She went above and beyond to provide emotional support, answering their questions and creating a positive atmosphere that put everyone at ease. Her compassionate and caring nature made all the difference during a challenging time for me and my family. In conclusion, she is a truly outstanding healthcare professional who embodies the principles of professionalism, patient centered care and empathy. Her dedication to her patients and their families is unmatched and I am very grateful for her support during my hospital stay. She deserved to be recognized for her work.”<\/p>\n
