The celebration commemorates those who have given the gift of organ and tissue, those who have received a life-saving transplant, those who are currently waiting for a transplant and those who have died while waiting for the gift of life.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper supports organ and tissue donation through our partnership with the NJ Sharing Network, a non-profit, federally-designated organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for New Jersey residents in need of life-saving transplants. NJ Sharing Network partners with Donate Life America, a not-for-profit national alliance that drives communities to increase their numbers of registered donors.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2013, Cooper has collaborated on organ donor cases that saved 80 lives. Nineteen livers, 15 hearts, four lungs, five pancreata and 37 kidneys have been transplanted from donors at Cooper. Also, 2,848 tissue grafts have been made from the generous gift of tissue donation. Tissue donation restores health and mobility to those in dire need.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there are more than 120,000 people on the national transplant waiting list. And each day, 21 people die while waiting for a life-saving organ.
