There has been a major cyberattack affecting national health care companies. Last week, Change Healthcare, an Optum company that processes pharmacy claims nationwide, was hit by a cyberattack that has affected the ability for patients across the nation to fill prescriptions. Optum is owned by United Healthcare, the nation\u2019s largest health insurance company, and is one of the largest clearinghouses for medical claims for both health care providers and health insurers.<\/p>\n
The cyberattack did not affect Cooper\u2019s IT systems. However, due to the attack on Change Healthcare, the ability for pharmacies to fill prescriptions has been affected as well as our ability to process medical claims and obtain authorizations (mainly for patients with United Healthcare). If your pharmacy has not received your electronically prescribed medication, please contact your physician\u2019s office for assistance.<\/p>\n
If your pharmacy is unable to fill your prescription because they cannot verify your insurance, consider using a national chain pharmacy such as CVS or Walgreens. Both have stated that they have not been directly affected by this cyberattack and are able to fill prescriptions during this outage.<\/p>\n
