Last week, Cooper’s neurosurgery team, led by Islam Fayed, MD, MS<\/a>, neurosurgeon and Director of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, successfully performed New Jersey\u2019s first deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery on a patient with Parkinson\u2019s disease using the cutting-edge Renishaw neuromate robotic system.<\/p>\n

The neuromate stereotactic robot has been used successfully in thousands of functional neurosurgical procedures and is now available for patients in New Jersey. The robot\u2019s precision enables surgeons to target areas with unmatched accuracy during stereotactic procedures. Patients eligible for robotic surgery benefit from numerous advantages, including asleep surgery instead of awake, shorter hospital stays, diminished pain and discomfort, accelerated recovery, and minimized risk of infection\u2014all facilitated by smaller incisions and a shorter surgery.<\/p>\n
