Cooper\u2019s adoption of the Johns Hopkins Activity and Mobility Program continues to make strides this summer. Recently, Cooper held a session to certify additional mobility advocates who, in turn, can mentor team members on the floors in best practices.<\/p>\n

For example, muscle mass decreases by 1.5% to 2% every day a person is on bed rest, which increases the risk of developing thromboembolic disease and other complications. Tactics such as encouraging patients who can walk to do so with family members and friends during their hospital stay, or for those who cannot walk, sitting in a chair for their meals, help in a patient\u2019s mobility during and after their hospitalization.<\/p>\n

Leading the June training sessions were Cooper team members Sheri Gallagher, PTA, and Joseph Trevito, BSN, RN, who are on their way to becoming Johns Hopkins Certified Trainers.<\/p>\n
