MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper held a ribbon cutting and reception to celebrate the opening of the new Hematologic Cancer Suite at the cancer center in Camden.<\/p>\n

In this new suite, the multidisciplinary team led by Roger K. Strair, MD, PhD<\/a>, Director, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, and Tulin Budak-Alpdogan, MD<\/a>, Head, Section of Hematology, provide care for patients with blood and other non-solid tumor cancers including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Blood cancers account for about 10% of all diagnosed cancers each year in the United States.<\/p>\n

This state-of-the-art suite includes bright, comfortable exam rooms, spacious apheresis rooms, and workspaces for the collaborative team. Apheresis is\u00a0a medical procedure that separates a specific component of a patient\u2019s blood and returns the remaining blood to the patient. At MD Anderson at Cooper, apheresis is used to harvest stem cells from patients prior to undergoing autologous stem cell transplants.<\/p>\n
