Below are the objectives for this Grand Rounds presentation:
\n– Review the New Jersey and Pennsylvania laws and how it applies to elder sexual abuse.
\n– Review current practices used in nursing homes to help determine capacity to consent to sexual activity.
\n– Discuss cultural influences of sexual issues in regards to aging patients in long-term care.
\n– Explore the ethical principles of intimate relationships in the elderly and institutionalized residents to engage in intimate relationships.<\/p>\n
Topic:<\/strong> Sexual Intimacy and Decision Making Capacity in Patients With Dementia Presenters:<\/strong> The learner objectives for these activities are to improve diagnostic skills, increase knowledge of all psychiatric disorders, and discuss recent advances in all areas of psychiatry, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and evaluative techniques.<\/p>\n The intended audience for these activities includes psychiatrists and psychologists. Other health care professionals including physicians from other disciplines, residents, medical students, nurses, therapists, and social workers may also participate.<\/p>\n The Cooper Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Cooper Health System takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity. The Cooper Health System designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM per session. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Successful completion of one hour of a continuing medical education (CME) course recognized by the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, or the American Podiatric Medical Association is equal to one hour of continuing education for New Jersey nursing license renewal (New Jersey Board of Nursing 13:37-5.3).
