As you join in the seasonal festivities and begin decorating your offices,\u00a0please download and read this poem<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0containing Cooper’s guidelines for maintaining a safe environment for patients and fellow employees.<\/p>\n

Managers, please share this with your staff members and post copies of the poem in all break rooms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All the departments throughout the hospital
\n<\/em>Liked the Holiday Season a lot\u2026
\n<\/em>But the Safety Committee (it seemed)
\n<\/em>For some reason did not!
\n<\/em>The Safety Committee was nervous
\n<\/em>Realizing the Holiday Season was here,
\n<\/em>And let\u2019s not forget \u2013 regulatory agencies are always near.
\n<\/em>While departments are decorating and decking their halls
\n<\/em>Putting up trees and wrapping the walls
\n<\/em>The Committee knew it was the time to send out the information this year
\n<\/em>So, the Committee set up guidelines to which all departments must adhere
\n<\/em>All artificial decorations, including wreaths and trees
\n<\/em>must be made out of non-combustible materials
\n<\/em>And proof of flammability rating we must see
\n<\/em>No decorations can be hung or strung from fire sprinklers, ceilings or lights
\n<\/em>All electrical decorations or string lights are just NOT permitted
\n<\/em>It is even stated that one cannot be committed
\n<\/em>To decorating a large area or space
\n<\/em>With wrapping paper used to grace
\n<\/em>And cover the walls, deck the columns, wrap desks or floors
\n<\/em>And don\u2019t even think of covering the Code Red Barrier Doors
\n<\/em>Last but not least all decorations and\/or trees
\n<\/em>Should not be placed in corridors, landings or near these:
\n<\/em>Hose cabinets, circuit boxes, informational signs, areas of EXIT keep free,
\n<\/em>From covering as well as the fire extinguishers, blocked they should never be!
\n<\/em>Wait! There is one more thing to hold dear.
\n<\/em>Our decorations should not interrupt
\n<\/em>The quality of patient care
\n<\/em>For that is why we are all here.
\n<\/em>The moral of the story is the Safety Committee does like the Season
\n<\/em>But what they do, they do for a reason
\n<\/em>Keeping everyone and the building safe
\n<\/em>Is a duty this Committee must face.<\/em><\/p>\n
