The Ripa Center for Women\u2019s Health and Wellness at Cooper is offering a new integrative medicine program.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cooper Integrative Medicine Program for Women is committed to serving and healing the whole person by addressing the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that affect a woman\u2019s health,\u201d according to David M. Nocchi, MD, who will lead the program along with Meena R. Sharma, MD.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy using evidence-based, holistic treatment modalities and wellness therapies, our team partners with each patient to develop a personalized care plan that supports optimal health and well-being by maximizing the body\u2019s potential for self-healing,\u201d said Dr. Sharma.<\/p>\n
The program is designed to complement existing treatment plans prescribed by patients\u2019 primary care and specialty physicians. Care plans focus on natural remedies (that do not interfere with traditional medications) and proven complementary medicine approaches such as acupuncture, therapeutic massage, meditation, and yoga. The program does not replace primary care, and the program\u2019s doctors will work in conjunction with the patient\u2019s other primary care physicians or specialists.<\/p>\n
A typical integrative medicine consult will address diet and nutrition, physical activity, mind-body interaction, stress, supplements and botanical medicines, as well as spiritual, emotional and\/or social needs. Most insurance companies cover integrative medicine appointments. Patients with an HMO plan will need a referral from their primary care provider.<\/p>\n
