October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you are over 40 or have had a family history of breast cancer, make sure to get screened with the most technologically advanced mammography. Cooper Breast Imaging Centers offer 3-D mammography, an FDA-approved advanced technology that takes multiple images of breast tissue to recreate a 3-D picture of the breast. It\u2019s different from traditional mammography in that traditional mammography obtains just a single image. These multiple images of breast-tissue slices give Cooper radiologists a clearer image of breast masses and make it easier to detect breast cancer.<\/p>\n
Cooper Breast Imaging Centers are designated as a \u201cBreast Imaging Center of Excellence\u201d by the American College of Radiology (ACR), making them the only hospital-based breast imaging center in South Jersey to receive this designation. The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR\u2019s breast imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. At Cooper, the designation means that patients not only have access to the highest quality of diagnostic care but also to the multidisciplinary clinical approach offered by the Cooper Breast Surgery team, part of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.<\/p>\n
Mammography screening in 3-D is available at all four Cooper radiology locations, with evening and weekend appointments available.<\/p>\n
