{"id":6483,"date":"2018-01-16T16:28:11","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T21:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/weeklyrounds\/?p=6483"},"modified":"2018-01-16T16:28:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-16T21:28:11","slug":"start-of-flu-season-declared-at-cooper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/weeklyrounds\/2018\/01\/start-of-flu-season-declared-at-cooper\/","title":{"rendered":"Start of Flu Season Declared at Cooper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CDC surveillance data along with Cooper\u2019s own experience of seeing more patients with influenza-like symptoms <strong>\u2013<\/strong> as outpatients, in our ED, and as inpatients <strong>\u2013 <\/strong>has prompted Cooper to officially declare January 11, 2018, as the beginning of flu season.<\/p>\n<p>The start of flu season means that <strong>all employees who have not received their annual influenza vaccination must wear a surgical mask that covers their nose and mouth while in a clinical area.<\/strong> This requirement is in accordance with the Cooper Influenza Vaccination Policy. The policy can be viewed on the Cooper Policy Network.<\/p>\n<p>Remember:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Proper hand hygiene and good cough etiquette<\/strong> <strong>are essential<\/strong> and remain the most effective ways to prevent the transmission of flu and other infections.<\/li>\n<li>Flu vaccination is still available and can be effective.
