This week, Cooper University Health Care opened a new 5,500 square-foot addition to its Emergency Department (ED) featuring 10 state-of-the-art exam rooms that will improve the patient experience and reduce wait times.<\/p>\n

\u201cCooper has one of the busiest emergency departments in the region as the only Level 1 Trauma Center in South Jersey. This addition will help us better serve our community and improve the patient experience in the ED,\u201d said Kevin O\u2019Dowd, JD, Co-President of Cooper University Health Care.<\/p>\n

Nationally, there has been an increase in emergency department volume, leading to extended wait times. Over the last several years, Cooper has experienced steady increases in volume in its ED from 58,500 in 2009 to 78,912 in 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe space will allow us to triage and separate patients according to the severity of their illnesses and injuries and move them through the ED more effectively and efficiently than we could with the limited space we had,\u201d said Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, Co-President of Cooper.<\/p>\n
