MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper was recognized as a top performing hospital for colon cancer surgery in U.S. News & World Report\u2019s 2018-2019 Best Hospitals survey, released yesterday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis recognition reaffirms MD Anderson at Cooper\u2019s role as a leading academic health system and our commitment to providing the highest level of cancer care to our community,\u201d said Kevin O\u2019Dowd, JD, Co-President of Cooper University Health Care.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are especially proud of the outstanding care provided by MD Anderson at Cooper\u2019s gastrointestinal cancer team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff,\u201d said Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, Co-President of Cooper. \u201cEvery day these dedicated professionals work diligently to serve our patients and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the last five years, MD Anderson at Cooper has been an integrated clinical partner with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the nation\u2019s top-ranked hospital for cancer care by\u00a0U.S. News & World Report. MD Anderson has held the No. 1 ranking 14 times in the last 17 years, including this year.<\/p>\n

The U.S. News & World Report\u00a0Best Hospitals rankings are intended to help patients with rare or life-threatening conditions make informed decisions about where to receive care. This year\u2019s\u00a0U.S. News & World Report\u00a0Best Hospitals list ranks hospitals in 16 specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; ophthalmology; orthopedics; pulmonology; psychiatry; rehabilitation; rheumatology; and urology.\u00a0 This is the 29th<\/sup> year for the survey.<\/p>\n

The rankings \u2014 which compare more than 4,500 medical centers across the country \u2014 are based primarily on objective measures, such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates; volume; patient experience; patient safety; and quality of nursing.<\/p>\n
