The events are designed to embrace black history and culture while being fun, informative, and encouraging thought-provoking discussion, inclusion, and camaraderie.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration kicked off on <strong>Tuesday, February 5, 2019<\/strong>, with a potluck luncheon featuring a variety of traditional African American\/soul foods. The potluck will help raise funds to send 20 students to the 2019 SNMA national conference in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Monday, February 25, 2019<\/strong>, at 6 p.m., CMSRU\u2019s Diversity Council will host \u201cMicroaggressions in Patient Care.\u201d This educational event will address microagressions that may exist in patient-physician encounters, and how health care providers can better address them. Topics such as cultural sensitivity, self-awareness of biases, and methods of bridging the gaps in patient care \u2013 beginning with communication and understanding \u2013 will be discussed.\u00a0\u201cMicroagressions in Patient Care\u201d will be held in CMSRU\u2019s multipurpose room.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) at CMSRU is celebrating black excellence with its 2019 Black History Month calendar of events, and they invite the entire Cooper community to join them.
