Every 4th Wednesday of the month, Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper in partnership with Safe Kids Southern NJ and the New Jersey State Police force, will be hosting FREE car seat safety checks for the local South Jersey community. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be stationed at the parking circle in front of the Cooper Robert’s Pavilion lobby every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. inspecting the selection and installation of each vehicles child safety and booster seats. Parents and caregivers will receive one-on-one instruction on how to properly use and install their child’s safety seat.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children one to 12 years old in the United States. Having the right child safety seat and knowing how to properly install the seat in the car is crucial. While many states have improved their requirements for child restraint use, recent studies show that only half of children ages four through eight rides in any type of safety seat. According to national data, 73 percent of child restraints are critically misused.
Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper’s first car seat check will be this Wednesday, October 24th beginning at 11 a.m. To learn more about Cooper’s monthly seat checks or for any questions please contact Maureen Donnelly at 856.968.8687.
