Cooper University Health Care has received the 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades, placing it among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for patient safety.

“Our clinical team works tirelessly to ensure that our patients receive the safest and most effective patient-centered medical care, and this Patient Safety Excellence Award speaks to our team’s commitment and success in achieving that end,” said Kevin O’Dowd, JD, co-president/CEO for Cooper.  During the study period (2015 to 2017), Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 14 patient safety indicators defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

In addition to the Patient Safety Award, Healthgrades also recognized Cooper as a 2019 Five-Star Achiever for a number of medical procedures including: defibrillator (cardiac) procedure; treatment of bowel obstruction; treatment of pancreatitis; treatment of diabetic emergencies; and for gynecologic procedures.

“As a leading academic health system in the region, our clinical experts – doctors, nurses, techs, and support staff – are dedicated to providing the highest level of medical care to our patients and it is an honor for so many of our medical specialties to be recognized by Healthgrades,” said Anthony J.
