MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Honors Survivors During Cancer Survivor Week

Cancer survivorship is more than reaching the end of medical care. Survivorship is new set of physical, mental, and emotional triumphs and challenges shared by patients, families, and caregivers.

This week, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper honored our survivors by hosting several celebrations during Cancer Survivor Week, which began on June 4 with National Cancer Survivors Day.

More than 200 people attended “Being a Savvy Cancer Survivor,” an informative lunch and lecture event for newly diagnosed patients, at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. Read more.

Sick and injured stuffed bears help alleviate kids’ fears of going to the hospital and doctor

More than 100 kindergartners from the KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy helped treat stuffed bears suffering from sore paws, painful ears, torn fur and shortness of breath today during Cooper University Health Care’s second annual Teddy Goes to Cooper event. Bears were also able to receive any immunizations they might need for school. Read more.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Physicians Presented Updates on Cancer Screenings at Recent CME Event

Over 80 primary care physicians, specialists, advanced practice providers, and other allied health professionals gathered on Wednesday, May 24, to learn about the most current cancer screening and risk reduction recommendations to share with their patients. This Continuing Medical Education (CME) event was co-sponsored by MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Cooper University Health Care, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) program, and the Burlington Camden County Regional Chronic Disease Coalition. Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper Hosts Health Fair for Kids

The Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper hosted a Health Fair for children from the Veterans Memorial Family School in Camden. The students learned about water safety, gun safety, nutrition, hand washing, the importance of exercise, asthma triggers and treatments. Healthy snacks were provided by Food Bank of South Jersey.

Event Attended by Governor Christie, several former governors and other officials

Governor Chris Christie, five former governors, numerous elected officials and nearly 30 members of the Sheridan family joined Cooper University Health Care leaders today for the unveiling ceremony of Sheridan Pavilion at Three Cooper Plaza in honor of the former president and CEO of the health care system.  Mr. Sheridan joined Cooper in 2005 and served as president and CEO of The Cooper Health System from 2008 until his and his wife’s death in 2014. Special Delivery for Moms Who Won’t Be Home to Celebrate Mother’s Day

There are many moms who will be spending their Mother’s Day in the hospital this year – recovering from their own illness or at the side of a loved one. The Lauren Rose Albert Foundation/Mother’s Matter Program is helping these women feel special by donating gift baskets to mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers who are hospitalized or have a family member hospitalized at Cooper University Health Care. The Ripa Center Offers Six-Week Osteoporosis Program – Strengthen the Bone

Osteoporosis is a disease that affects the bones. Individuals with osteoporosis have bones that have become thin and are at increased risk for fracture. While bone loss is a normal part of the aging process, osteoporosis is a treatable condition.

To help women understand osteoporosis and reduce the risks associated with bone loss, The Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at Cooper is offering a six-week program that provides patient education, exercise, guidance, and self-management. Read more.

Cooper Brings Dance Party to Patient

When Yasha P. couldn’t attend her school dance because she had been hospitalized, the nurses and staff of Cooper University Health Care brought a dance to her. According to Yasha’s mother, Kay, her daughter was disappointed that she would miss this year’s spring dance because of health reasons. On Friday, the staff surprised the family with a dance party including a dress, decorations, music, and games. Read more.
