This week, Fox 29 featured a story about Meredith P. Crisp, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist at Cooper, and patient Sandee Vogelson, a Ovarian Cancer survivor raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer. In addition to being our patient, Mrs. Vogelson is also one of the Co-chairs of our Pink Roses Teal Magnolia's event!

Health care providers in Camden, Trenton and Newark are expected to launch Medicaid accountable care organizations, or ACOs, early in 2012. Following the adoption of legislation that paves the way for these urban health care pilot programs, these ACO organizations will share in the Medicaid cost savings expected to result from innovative health care delivery models.

This week, the Gloucester County Times published an article about Cooper’s Clinical Decision Unit, which opened in early June, and how it has improved the flow of patient care in the Emergency Department.

Last week, Michael E. Chansky, MD, Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine, was featured on a segment for CBS3’s “Health Watch” discussing safety issues related to Hurricane Irene, including contaminated flood water, food spoiling, and generator dangers.

This week, CBS3 featured a story about the fateful encounter of two local physicians who met at ground zero on September 11, 2001, during the attacks on the World Trade Center. John Pryor, MD, a Philadelphia Trauma Surgeon and John Chovanes, DO, a Cooper Trauma Surgeon, both went on to serve in the military and a very close friendship was formed.

Every Wednesday, now through fall, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., Cooper’s Farm Stand, on the corner of Haddon Avenue and Benson Street, is open to the Camden community and Cooper employees. The stand offers locally grown fruits and vegetables, locally made cheese, eggs and other nutritious foods from area farms.

Cooper University Hospital’s Fourth Annual Resident/Fellow Forum was held August 11 on the 10th floor of the Roberts Pavilion. Residents and Fellows in attendance represented 13 programs.

World Breastfeeding Week, August 1 -7, was the perfect time to kick off an interdepartmental partnership to earn an elite designation for Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper as a “Baby-Friendly Hospital."

Cooper’s 2011 Spirit of Planetree Award winners, whose nominations were based on recommendations from their departmental colleagues and members of other departments and disciplines. Voting from among 20 nominees, members of the Planetree Steering Committee announced the winners on August 22, 2011.
