Cooper Medical School’s Research Committee is sponsoring the seminars on topics of interest to both communities; alternating speakers and locations to accommodate staffs of each institution.

On Sunday, August 22, an Op-Ed article about the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University by Donald J. Farish, PhD, President of Rowan University was featured in the Courier-Post. In the article, Dr. Farish asserted that despite the current economic climate in New Jersey, conditions are optimal for building a new medical school in South Jersey.

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University took a major step today with a ceremony to begin clearing the physical site for the new medical school building. Camden Mayor Dana Redd; Cooper University Hospital President and CEO John P. Sheridan, Jr.; Rowan University President Dr. Donald Farish; Rowan University Board Chair Helene Reed; and Founding Dean of the Medical School Paul Katz, MD, put on their hard hats as an excavator with grapple began taking down a vacant building, marking the official start of construction on the site in Camden.

Paul Katz, MD, has been selected as the Founding Dean of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. He currently is the Vice Dean of Faculty and Clinical Affairs at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa. As leader of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Katz becomes the Founding Dean of the first, four-year allopathic medical school ever in South Jersey—and the first new medical school in the State of New Jersey in the past 30 years.

Last week, Rowan University held an undergraduate commencement ceremony for the class of 2010. Former graduate Marque Allen addressed those in attendance while accepting this year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. During his speech, Allen and his wife, Yvette, officially presented the University with the first donation to fund a scholarship at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

Alumnus Gives First Gift to Cooper Medical School of Rowan University

Rowan University alumnus Dr. Marque Allen made the trek from his home in Texas to South Jersey this week to spend Thanksgiving with his family--and to announce his $100,000 donation to Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. The gift by Dr. Allen, a podiatric surgeon, and his wife, Yvette, is the first gift to the new medical school and will create a scholarship fund for first-year Rowan alumni who are attending Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
