Congratulations, Sgt Darrell Wise, This Quarter’s Good Catch Winner

Sgt. Darrell Wise used his HRO principle of Preoccupation with Failure to protect his fellow team members from a weapon that was missed in the field.

While working in the Cooper Emergency Department, Sgt. Wise was assisting with the arrival of a patient who was injured in an accident. Upon arrival, the transporting EMT told Sgt. Wise that he had searched the patient’s belongings and that they were safe to continue with the patient.

Taking the safekeeping of Cooper’s patients, families, and team members very seriously, Sgt. Wise went the extra mile to independently double check the work of the EMT. By policy, Sgt. Wise carried out the required search and uncovered a loaded weapon that had been missed in the field. You can hear Sgt. Wise talk about his experience here.

Thank you, Sgt. Wise, for keeping us safe. Good Catch Nominees are identified through the EARS system; so please keep those reports coming.  The top three nominees are then voted on by you to select the winner. The Good Catch Award Winner is honored here, on their units, as well as at a Cooper Board meeting. The winner also receives a $100 gift card and use of a reversed spot in the CCIA garage. The two runners up each receive a $25 gift card.
