Measles Patient Update & Information

Cooper Team:

Last Friday, the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) issued a notice that a patient with measles had visited a number of facilities in Burlington and Camden Counties, including Cooper’s Family Medicine office at the Kroc Center in Camden on June 14, 2018. The DOH notice instructed individuals who visited the locations and believe they may have been exposed to the measles to contact their physicians. To read the DOH notice click here.

Cooper’s IMT and Infection Prevention teams have prepared a number of resources for our clinical teams as well as our call centers to assist in dealing with patients who believe they may have been exposed to the measles and may be calling or visiting our facilities. You can click here to access these documents, which are on the Pulse under Measles Protocols and include:

  • Measles FAQ
  • Notes for representatives taking calls in the Access Center
  • Measles Screening Information for Clinical Teams
  • Measles Quick Sheet for Clinical Teams with links for more information
  • Patient Evaluation and Procedures for Measles for ED and Ambulatory Teams
  • CDC Checklist for Patient Evaluation for Measles

Measles symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes and a rash that usually appears between three and five days after symptoms begin. The rash usually begins as flat red spots that appear on the face at the hairline and spread downward to the neck, torso, arms, legs and feet.

If you have already received the Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccine, two doses of MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles, and one dose is about 93% effective.

For suspected cases of measles or assistance, clinical teams should call the IMT 856-968-7900.

Thank you.
