Last year, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper expanded its services with the opening of a new and specialized 30-bed, all-private-room, inpatient oncology unit on the fifth floor of the Roberts Pavilion. On July 7, 2017, Cooper leadership, staff, and former patients were welcomed back to celebrate a year of hope and healing.
The event marked an important milestone in MD Anderson Cooper’s continued determination to provide the best care for cancer patients in this state-of-the-art unit, which saw 1,637 admissions in its first year.
Wendy Stillman was the first patient admitted to this unit. Wendy was an inspiration for the team and, though she lost her battle with cancer, she was remembered and celebrated at the event by her husband, Tim Stillman.
Kathryn Sullivan and Elizabeth Pluck had been patients in this unit and also attended. Both recently celebrated the end of their treatments.
Special acknowledgements for the event were given to Clinical Director Miriam Zeigler, Associate Clinical Director Heather Brown, and all the amazing nurses, unit secretaries, and clinical techs who do so much to make this unit an inviting and comfortable place for healing. Thanks also went to Dr. Linda Devereux and Dr. Danielle Behrens, who provide medical care to the patients on this unit.
