Timely expiration orders (30 mins or less) must be placed in Epic so that all relevant people are notified of a patient expiration. Health Care Access initiates electronic death certificates as soon as an expiration order via the discharge order is placed in Epic. As they are the point people for the Funeral Directors and the Medical Examiners, it is imperative that these orders are entered into Epic in 30 minutes or less upon patient expiration.
