National Walking Day

Today is National Walking Day! It was first established in 2007 by the American Heart Association to help promote a heart-healthy agenda and to encourage people to add a little bit more exercise into their lives. Even as little of 30-minutes of walking a day can have a positive effect on a person’s physical, emotional, and mental health.

There are so many additional co-benefits too! Consider the mental health benefits of exercise and of getting outside. Sleeping better is another benefit of walking. Studies have shown that people who walk on a regular basis are less likely to suffer insomnia than people who don’t walk at all. And, as we approach Earth Day April 22nd, we need to think about the effects on your carbon footprint.

And just because it is a National Walking Day, no reason you could not bike too!
