Recognizing International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, a day which recognizes our transgender and gender non-conforming employees, patients, and the transgender community. At Cooper, we are committed to serving everyone equally and making sure every patient, visitor, and team member is respected and feels like they belong here.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community have unique health care needs. Cooper provides a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ patients. Whether its hormone therapy for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of HIV transmission, surgical options, or well-visit care, our Center for LGBTQ+ Health at Cooper provides a supportive environment to meet those health care needs, while also working address the societal pressures on members of the LGBTQ+ community that have led to higher rates of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and suicide attempts.

Cooper uses an electronic medical record (EMR) system that recognizes chosen names and personal pronouns, and we have physicians, providers, and team members who understand the unique health care needs of our transgender and gender non-conforming patients.

Cooper is proud to have earned the designation of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Top Performer” in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 15th anniversary edition of the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).

The Center for Family Services/SERV provides more resources for anyone who would like more information about LGBTQ topics here.
