Cooper University Health Care Physician Named Prestigious 2020 Bloomberg Fellow

Cooper University Health Care physician Matthew S. Salzman, MD, has been named one of the prestigious 2020 Bloomberg Fellows by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Salzman is one of only 50 master of public health fellows (MPH) and eight doctor in public health (DPH) fellows from 27 states, and Washington, D.C., in the 2020 cohort. The 2020 Bloomberg Fellows will receive extensive public health training to tackle critical health issues across the country. Read more.

Congratulations to the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Class of 2020!

Today, Thursday, May 14, 2020, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2020.  We congratulate the 79 graduates who earned medical degrees from CMSRU, our the fifth and largest graduating class since CMSRU opened in 2013. To date, 326 students have graduated from the school.

During their four years at CMSRU, the Class of 2020 performed many impressive community-based projects that directly supported residents of Camden. Read more.

EMS Flight Nurse Named 2020 Cooper Nurse of the Year

Cooper University Health Care has named Steven Teitelman, RN, BSN, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, as the 2020 Nurse of the Year. Teitelman, a flight nurse coordinator with Cooper’s Air Medical Services, also received the Barbara and Jack Tarditi Award for Excellence in Nursing Mentorship Award as part of Cooper’s Annual Nursing Excellence Awards presented during National Nurses’ Week (May 6-12). Congressional Medal of Honor Society Announces 2020’s Citizen Honors Awards Finalists –  Cooper Employee John Bishop Among Finalists

Winners to be Honored at Awards Dinner on Medal of Honor Day, March 25

Washington, DC, February 26, 2020 — The Congressional Medal of Honor Society, today, announced the top 27 finalists for this year’s Citizen Honors Awards.  The finalists were selected through two rounds of judging by an independent panel, with the final round exclusively of Medal of Honor recipients.  Read more.

Dr. Bascom Waugh to Ella Hawk: Cooper’s Military Legacy

In 1950, Dr. Bascom Waugh became the first African American doctor to join the medical staff at Cooper. A World War II veteran, Dr. Waugh was a former flight surgeon for the 332nd Fighter Group, the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. According to a 2007 Air Force School of Medicine report, Dr. Waugh was one of the first two African American doctors to be trained alongside Caucasian physicians in the Army’s School of Aviation near San Antonio.

First Grantees of New $1 Million Camden City Community Grant Program Announced

Conner Strong & Buckelew, American Water, The Michaels Organization, NFI, and The Cooper Foundation Sponsor Community Building Grants to 29 Camden City Based Non-Profit Organizations

George E. Norcross, III, Chairman of Cooper University Health Care, announced today that 29 Camden City based non-profit community organizations will receive grant awards from the first ever Camden City Community Grant Program. Each grantee will receive a $5,000 grant to fund a significant community building activity within the next 18 months. Read more.
