Cooper University Health Care Appoints Chief Philanthropy Officer to The Cooper Foundation

Cooper University Health Care has promoted Robert A. Ortiz Jr., JD, to senior vice president and chief philanthropy officer of The Cooper Foundation, the philanthropic, community outreach, and community development arm of Cooper University Health Care.

Cooper Air Medical Services Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

Cooper University Health Care’s Air Medical Services is celebrating its 10-year anniversary of service in South Jersey this month.

Cooper Air Medical Services launched on December 4, 2010. Since launching, Cooper Air Medical Services have provided lifesaving care to the community, transporting nearly 4,000 patients – 2,400 inter-facility transports, and more than 1,500 transports directly from a trauma location to the hospital. Cooper Employee Honored With Heroism Award for Saving Man’s Life

Yesenia “Yesi´ Santiago, a non-medical case manager for Cooper University Health Care’s Early Intervention Program (EIP), was honored with the Cooper Heroism Award for saving a man’s life in the community during the summer. Cooper Co-CEOs Kevin O’Dowd and Anthony Mazzarelli presented the award to Yesi during a recent ceremony.

This week, actor Jeff Bridges announced that he was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and is undergoing treatment. While many people are familiar with lung, breast, and colorectal cancers, they may not know as much about lymphoma.

Lymphoma is a cancer that starts in cells called lymphocytes that are part of the body’s immune system. Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell found in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and almost every other organ of the body. Read more.

Puri, MD, Division Head, Critical Care Medicine and Co-Medical Director, Center for Critical Care Medicine, was named a co-winner of Physician Healthcare Hero of the Year by NJBIZ magazine as part of the publication’s annual Healthcare Heroes awards.

Cooper Doctor Heads Mission to Establish Much Needed Pediatric ICUs in Nigeria

Odiraa Nwankwor, MD, MPH, a pediatric intensivist at Cooper University Health Care and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Cooper Medical School, is leading an initiative to help establish pediatric intensive units in Nigeria.

Dr. Nwankwor, a Nigerian native and the Founder of Health Place for Children Initiative, developed the “Nigeria Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Project” as part of Cooper’s Global Health program to bring medical equipment, guidance, and hand-on training to hospitals throughout that country. Employee of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Received Prestigious National Award

Christopher J. Moore, BS, CMD, a Medical Dosimetrist at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, received the prestigious 2020 Radiation Therapy Empower Award presented by Beekley Medical, a Connecticut-based manufacturer of medical devices.

Beekley Medical established its Empower Award as a national initiative to recognize professionals in various cancer care disciplines for their efforts to improve care for patients and their families. Read more.
