Cooper Announces Executive and Board Appointments

The Cooper Health System announced yesterday that Joel B. Rosen, former United States Magistrate Judge, will become a member of its Board of Trustees in September 2010 and that Gary J. Lesneski has been appointed Senior Executive Vice President/General Counsel to The Cooper Health System. Mr. Lesneski will assume his new role effective October 1, 2010.

Cooper Recognized by the Society for Thoracic Surgeons as Top 12 Percent in U.S. for Second Year In a Row

Cooper University Hospital is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons has recognized the cardiac surgery program for outstanding performance. Last year, Cooper was among the top 14 percent in the nation and this year ranks in the top 12 percent — an exceptional improvement in overall performance.

Cooper Names New Pavilion for NJ Speaker Joseph Roberts

Cooper University Hospital formally named its new 10-story patient Pavilion in honor of Joseph J. Roberts, Jr., former Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly and longtime supporter of Camden and South Jersey. The announcement of the “Roberts Pavilion” was made today at a dedication ceremony with nearly 400 business, civic and government leaders in attendance.

Cooper Expands Concussion-Traumatic Brain Injury Testing Program To Treat Non-Sports Related Injuries

Sports-related concussion has been a hot topic recently, but competitive athletes are not the only people who suffer from these serious injuries. Each month, hundreds of patients are treated in Cooper’s Emergency Department and Trauma Center for mild to severe concussions, and many more seek treatment from various Cooper outpatient offices.

Cooper Celebrates Opening of New Emergency Department

Today, Cooper University Hospital unveiled its new, expanded Emergency Department (ED) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for employees and visitors. The new facility is 33,000 square feet and includes 36 brand new, state-of-the-art patient rooms, including: designated adult and pediatric treatment and resuscitation rooms, two private triage rooms, a separate pediatric waiting room, and two decontamination rooms.

Rowan, Cooper Appoint Founding Dean to Lead Medical School

Paul Katz, MD, has been selected as the Founding Dean of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. He currently is the Vice Dean of Faculty and Clinical Affairs at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa. As leader of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Katz becomes the Founding Dean of the first, four-year allopathic medical school ever in South Jersey—and the first new medical school in the State of New Jersey in the past 30 years.

Cooper Study Published In JAMA Suggests Too Much Oxygen Following Cardiac Arrest May Be Harmful, Not Helpful

Critical Care and Emergency Medicine researchers at Cooper University Hospital have published a research study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), one of the leading medical journals. Their research, which was a large multicenter study of adult patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after resuscitation from cardiac arrest, found that exposure to hyperoxia, or excessively high oxygen levels in the blood, is a common occurrence and an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality.
