Beer As Good As Water for Rehydration? Not So Fast.

Last week, the Courier-Post featured an article in its “Health & Wellness” section about a study that suggests that beer is just as hydrating as water following exercise. However, Carla Fynan, Manager of Clinical Nutrition at Cooper, says exercise and alcohol do not mix, and any combination of such would not enhance one’s performance.

A Global Battle Against Cancer

The July issue of South Jersey Magazine published an article about a startling new statistic indicating that cancer deaths could double in the next 20 years. According to the United Nations World Health Organizations International Agency for Research on Cancer, the number of annual diagnoses will increase from 12.7 million in 2008 to 21.4 million in 2030; the number of deaths will increase from 7.6 million to 13.2 million.

Sports-related concussion has been a hot topic recently, but competitive athletes are not the only people who suffer from these serious injuries. Each month, hundreds of patients are treated in Cooper’s Emergency Department and Trauma Center for mild to severe concussions, and many more seek treatment from various Cooper outpatient offices.
