On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, a team from Cooper’s Infection Prevention department visited the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. Led by Shahrzad Darvish, MSN, RN, CIC, the team volunteered to plate and serve dinner to 330 guests that evening, as well as clean-up assignments after dinner.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper has received a three-year approval to establish a new Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program by the Society of Surgical Oncology, one of fewer than 50 programs in the nation.

The results of a five-year, international multicenter trial studying the efficacy of a “blood purification” technique to treat sepsis has been published today in The Journal of the American Medical Association, a leading medical journal. Cooper is one of approximately 40 sites in the United States and the only hospital in the Philadelphia region participating in a clinical trial for Boston Scientific’s WATCHMAN FLX™ device. The WATCHMAN FLX™ is the next generation of a potentially life-changing catheter-based (or non-surgically delivered) device designed to close the left atrial appendage in order to reduce the risk of stroke in certain patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib). On Friday, September 28, 2018, Lourdes Alanis, a fourth-year resident with Cooper’s Diagnostic Radiology program, gave Instagram followers a look into the world of interventional radiology (IR). This opportunity was provided by the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), which highlighted six women in IR as part of a social media campaign in September celebrating Women in Medicine Month. Each physician shared photos on SIR’s Instagram, walking followers through their “day in the life” at various institutions across the country. Read more.
