Cooper University Health Care Board of Trustees Chairman George E. Norcross III on August 31, 2017, announced that Cooper had signed a letter of intent to acquire Trinity Health’s New Jersey facilities, which include Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, and St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.

Cooper Chairman George E. Norcross III Kicks Off Fund with $5,000 Donation

The Cooper Foundation, George E. Norcross III, and Cooper University Health Care, which operates MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, have established a relief fund to provide support to employees of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston following the hurricane that struck this week. Cooper trauma nurse Laura Tolver, RN, of Edgewater Park, has been named a Tillman Scholar by the Pat Tillman Foundation. A student currently enrolled in the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program at Rutgers University–Camden, she is one of only five nursing students nationwide, and only 61 students overall, to earn this highly competitive scholarship this year.

Tolver is one of two students attending Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, to receive this award. Read more.

Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University Health Care recently appointed David G. Bruner, MD, FAAP, and Jillian Gormley, DO, to the staff.

Previously, Dr. Bruner was a general pediatrician at AdvoCare Laurel Pediatrics, Sewell, NJ. Dr. Bruner completed his residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was awarded the Robert Baird award for excellence in teaching, a spirit of inquiry, and compassion for patients and their families. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is once again ranked the nation’s top hospital for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” survey. Since the survey began in 1990, MD Anderson has been named one of the top two cancer hospitals, and it has ranked first 13 times in the last 16 years.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, which partnered with the world-renown institution in October 2013, is one of seven clinically integrated partner institutions in the United States. Read more.

Most Wired Hospitals Use Technology to Partner With Patients on Health

For the sixth time, Cooper University Health Care has been named one of the nation’s most wired hospitals by the annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey developed by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum. According to the survey, now in its 19th year, the hospitals listed are those who make it easier for patients and providers to interact, thus improving communication, safety, and patient-provider relationships. Cooper University Health Care recently recognized Diane Werner, RN, of Haddonfield, NJ, with The DAISY Award for providing exceptional nursing care. Diane works as a nurse in Cooper’s Post Anesthesia Care Unit and was nominated by the family of a recent patient.  She was cited for her professional care, compassion and advocacy on behalf of the patient following several recent surgeries. Studies show whole-blood transfusion offers greater benefits for treating hemorrhagic shock

Cooper University Health Care, South Jersey’s only Level I Trauma Center, is the third academic tertiary care health system in the United States to offer whole blood transfusions for trauma patients who present with massive bleeding and hemorrhagic shock.
