Study Proves Lactate Clearance Effective for Sepsis
Stephen W. Trzeciak, MD, MPH, Cooper Division of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, co-authored the results of a pivotal research study on sepsis, published recently in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The study compared two methods for monitoring the effectiveness of aggressive resuscitation of patients with sepsis, when applied in the emergency department. The study showed that a new method, lactate clearance, is as equally effective in monitoring aggressive resuscitation of a sepsis patient as is central venous oxygen saturation.
